Final Exam: Friday Aug 19 Ð 10:30 am Ð 12:30 pm
Math 0800 is a course that you either tested
into or decided to take to help get you ready for Math 1100 -Math Reasoning,
Math 1107 - Introduction to Mathematical Sciences (for these two courses you
need a C or higher), or Math 1170 - College Algebra (for this course you need a
B or higher). For this reason, Math
0800 must be taken for a letter grade.
It is important that you attend class every day. Mathematics is a subject that you need
to work on daily. I expect you to
do all homework that is assigned and have it completed on time as well as take
the tests when scheduled. It is
recommended that you read the section we will be discussing prior to coming to
class. You are expected to keep an organized notebook consisting of daily
notes, homework, quizzes and tests.
It is recommended that you rework any problems done incorrectly on your
homework, quizzes and tests. I want
you to be successful and I am sure that you want that for yourself. That is why I feel so strongly about the
importance of being in class every day, participating, and doing your
homework. If you need help in study
skills, please feel free to see me.
I will be glad to help you set up a plan and discuss what works
best.
It is important for you to ask questions and
be sure to get the help you need to succeed. I expect you to ask questions in class
on material that you do not understand.
If more help is needed, I expect you to come see me and take advantage
of the Mathematics Help Sessions.
If you need to be absent, it is your
responsibility to get notes and any assignments missed. You are responsible for all material
missed in your absence. If you know
you will be gone, please make arrangements ahead of time. It is your responsibility to let me know
before
you go so that proper arrangements can be made. If unforeseen circumstances arise and
you need to be absent, be sure to let me know by email and find out what you
missed by checking the assignments on WebAssign. I recommend that you exchange phone
numbers and/or email addresses with a few students in the class so that you can
keep up to date.
Note: If you know you are going to be absent,
fill out the absence form (found under Resources in WebAssign)
before you go and give to me. If
you are absent due to unforeseen reasons, complete the form upon your return
and give to me prior to class.
Knowledge of operations on real numbers and
the ability to solve simple linear equations is required. There will be a Basic Skills Exam to
test your understanding in these areas.
This exam will cover the material in the textbook through Section 3.2. Students who have not mastered the
skills on the Basic Skills Exam typically do not succeed in M0800.
The purpose of this exam is to assess basic
mathematical skills needed for Math 0800.
You must pass the Basic Skills Exam with a score of 80% or higher to receive a passing grade in Math 0800. The score from the Basic Skills Exam
will be entered into your grade average for the course. 2016. If you score below 80% on the exam, you
may continue in Math 0800; but you must retake the exam until you pass with a
score of 80% or higher. All retakes
of the Basic Skills Exam will be given outside of class time.
Attendance will be taken daily in the form of
a daily checkup or a quiz. This
checkup will consist of one or two questions from a previous homework
assignment. Because this is the
daily attendance record no makeups will be given. To earn the points you must attend the
class.
Homework will be assigned daily using WebAssign. The
idea of homework is to keep you up to speed on the material.
Quizzes will be unannounced, there
are no makeup quizzes.
Tests will be given at the end of each
chapter or combination of chapters.
You are expected to take tests as scheduled. Makeup tests will be given only in
extreme cases at the instructorÕs discretion.
You can choose to do a test retake. If you should score lower on the retake
than the original, you will get the higher score. Retakes will not be given during class
and must be scheduled with me. You
will have to schedule an appointment with me to go over the test you want to
retake. I expect you to make
corrections on the test to be retaken and redo the chapter review. Test retakes must be completed no later
than the Friday before the next test is given. The retake option should not be looked
at as a way to catch up if you let things slide. If you use it as such, you will only get
further behind.
A cumulative Final Exam will be given on Friday
Aug 19 Ð 10:00 am Ð 12:00 pm
